Turkey Hunt Coming! May 2-31
Brad and his wife spotted these turkeys up Blacksmith Fork Canyon.

Black Canyon
Brad and I went to fish the Oneida Narrows a couple of weeks ago, but the flows were too high to fish. We talked to a PacifiCorp worker and he told us that the flows were lower in Black Canyon. So we went out scouting.
Looking upstream at the Black Canyon take out. We fished from the bridge to about 200 yards up, but no luck. We tried nymphs and streamers, but no luck. The water was clouded up pretty good and it would normally be crystal clear.

Just below the Alexander Reservoir dam. There were Canadian Geese up on the cliffs and down in the stream. We saw hundreds of deer in the fields as you head into Grace, Idaho as well. Grace had a great little fly/lure shop that had some great prices. I would like to fish the reservoir and the river to really get to know its potential. I think Brad and I are going to be planning a trip up here early this summer.

Brad started out catching 2 rainbows. He switched from nymphing to a streamer and it brought in this 18.5 inch rainbow! It was a good fight that took him down stream. I was able to assist by reaching out over a big rock to net it.
This is the biggest trout that Brad has ever landed. It is also the largest trout I have seen pulled out of the narrows.
We fished streamers up at the dam and we caught several more rainbows.

Provo River
Taking my cousin, Drew out fly fishing for his first time. A rainbow and a 15 in brown- hares ear and zebra midge. We would have been fishing blue winged olive or a blue dun since a hatch was going on but I didnt have any :(

Oneida Narrows
A few weeks ago Brad and I hit the Narrows. I landed one and Brad had one get off then it was DEAD. No more action, but it was a beautiful day.

My Dad and Uncle make my blog- With a "Stormin' Normin!"
The one that didn't get away! Bart, my Dad and Uncle Rick got this on the Cedar River backwater in Iowa - ice-fishing - the other day. It's a Northern Pike, 39 inches long and approx. 16 lbs.
Finally out again- Newton
I haven't been out fishing for over a month! Sad. I was going to take Caleb with me since it was so nice out. These pictures are a little later in the day. I started out fishing in my t-shirt! A beautiful day. The ice was solid 18+ inches of ice. Brad and I caught dinks all day- bass, perch and blue-gill. Brad got a decent size perch. No muskie- I was trying for them. I was even prepared with a heavier line and leader. I plan on getting out more often and hopefully Caleb can join me as well. I might try to get up to Bear Lake in the next couple of weeks. I bought an Idaho fishing license as well- so I'm ready to venture out ice fishing and fly fishing Idaho.

Opener of Pheasant Hunting
Brad H. and I went out on the opener and got 3 birds. We saw about 12 birds total which was really good for not having any dogs. Fortunately, there were so many people out that a lot of the birds got pushed to us. Most of them sat really tight and had to literally be kicked to get them to fly. It was a great day!

"I saw a fish swirling around my bait right before my bubble disappeared. The second I tightened my line, my drag started spinning and I knew I had a big fish on -- but I had no idea how BIG. After a few LONG minutes of working the drag and wearing it out, we finally netted it and pulled it out of the water getting a good look at his size. I couldn't believe my eyes: he was FAT and LONG. As I lifted up the biggest fish I'd ever seen in person, I let out a couple ‘yeehas' and it was pictures and smiles for the rest of the day. A day I'll remember forever, a trout of a lifetime. "
The fish measured 29 inches long, with a 15.5 inch girth, and weighed 8.4 pounds.

STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR -- Remember the big catch made at Strawberry Reservoir we told you about earlier this month? Well, here's another fish tale for you.
Bryant Bunnell of American Fork caught a nearly 30 inch-long cutthroat at Strawberry Reservoir on the morning of Oct. 23. Hey says he was fishing from the shore at about 9:00 in the morning and was using chub meat as bait. Here's the story in his own words:

STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR -- This is "the big one" that didn't get away. It's not a "fish tale," either. It's the real deal.
Tuesday, a 34-inch, 14-pound cutthroat was taken out of Strawberry Reservoir. According to Paul and John Phillips, owners of Strawberry Marina and Lodge, this is the largest cutthroat caught at Strawberry since the lake was poisoned in 1993. We didn't find out the identity of the fisherman until he saw our story. Midvale resident A.D. Green he called KSL Sports Friday night to let us know it was him.
Green said he made the big catch using a needlefish lure. Monday, a 10-pound rainbow was taken out of the reservoir. With the cooler temperatures, the big fish are in shallow water and are very active.
