Me and Brad at Mantua
The outdoors revitalize my being no matter the activity and even if only for a moment.
Being outdoors reminds me of what is most important; therefore, I long most days to be in the great outdoors.

Jazz Swept in Series :( Thanks for the tickets Alpine!
My first NBA playoff game ever! It would have been my 2nd, but I helped the boss pull off a prank on his family to keep the engagement of his daughter a secret- which left me missing out on Jazz tickets. The prank went great though. For this game, Jazz vs. Lakers- Zane, Nick, Mike, James and I got to go to the game. We met early to do the traditional Crown Burger before the game. The arena was so loud that most of the time my ears were ringing (yes, I know that means hearing damage). Too bad they lost. It was fun though!

My first fly fishing outing for 2010
I'm not sure what this fly is, but there were lots of them out on my first fly fishing trip for this year. I tied on a pattern as close as I could to it and started getting hits. I hooked 4 different trout and couldn't land a single one. I was too eager and kept setting the hook too early. I'm excited to get out more this year. Sorry for all posts catch-ups. I will try to stay more current. Stay tuned for more updates.
Caleb's First Ice Fishing Trip
Caleb's first ice fishing trip was fun. The first picture is of him getting splashed with water from a fish. He stayed busy coloring and watching the Disney channel on my phone when the fishing was slow. Once we found the fish he had a fun time watching them down the hole and trying to get them to bite his jig. He almost fell head first into the hole he was so excited. He actually did fall in- I just drilled the holes in the tent and told him to stay put while I brought the buckets in- he stepped into the hole thigh deep 2 seconds later. He stayed warm enough to keep fishing. He didn't do bad for his first time. I'm excited to take him more next year. We went to Hyrum Reservoir in February.

Snowmobiling with Alpine Cleaning & Restoration's Owner
I have never been snowmobiling in my life- but I think I have found a new passion! It was the best winter sport I have ever done in my life! It combines speed, thrill, and power all in one. I was able to keep up with the owner of Alpine Cleaning & Restoration and his son, Nick. I even did some hill climbing with them. I only got stuck once- I had to hop off and I was in waist deep powder. I was able to stand off to the side of the machine and ride out. I even popped some wheelies and went off some jumps! It was a blast!
Alpine Cleaning & Restoration/Comcast Skiing

I haven't been skiing in over ten years- but I tried it again! We started off on a black diamond run. I was surprised at how well I did. I'm not as confident in skiing as I am in snowboarding. After taking a break I switched back to snowboarding. I love snowboarding so much better!

Our lure assortment that brought us luck on Mantua
Here are the lures that brought us luck. All are available through "custom jigs and spins"
Gilbert had his luck on a green Nuclear Ant. The one pictured is Chartreuse.
Brad's luck came on a green Rat Finkee.
Most of my luck came on a pink and white Ratso.
I also had some luck on a pink and white Toadie.
We tipped most of our jigs with Wax Worms.
But we found better luck with Meal Worms "Mealys" for the bigger bluegill & trout.
Ice Fishing on Mantua Reservoir
Our setup. Brad on the left, Gilbert on the right.
My 15 inch rainbow trout.
Brad fighting a rainbow trout.
Brad had the touch for catching the bigger bluegill.
Brad with a decent size bluegill.
It was a great day to be out fishing. Brad, Gilbert and I were happy with the fishing action. We went from 2:30-6pm. We each caught between 10-15 bluegill. Brad caught 2 rainbow trout and landed one of them, the other got off right before he was able to pull it out of the hole. I caught two rainbow trout as well.

Day after Christmas- Ice Fishing
Manuta Reservoir
All caught on a pink and white "Toadie" with black spots.
My friend Brad and I got to go ice fishing up at Mantua Reservior for a few hours today. Surprisingly, all of them came out of the same hole- it was a nice little hot spot. We actually caught a 6th Rainbow trout but it was a little smaller than the rest, so we let it go. It was a beautiful day and the ice was 13.5 inches thick- plenty safe. I got to try out my new ice fishing sled- it worked great! I think playing chill radio on Pandora (Internet Radio) through my phone lured the fish in. Brad didn't have to much luck, but he brought me some! Hopefully, he will want to go again. I'm sure he will have better luck next time.
Christmas Eve Duck Hunting
Pheasants running in field.
Christmas Eve morning my neighbor, Brad Hansen and I woke up at 5:50 to go duck hunting. We were afraid it was going to be too foggy, but it turned out just fine. Around 6:30 we had the canoe all loaded on Cutler Reservoir and were paddling to a new spot. You could hear the ice chunks scrape the canoe as fog rolled across the water. We ended up jumping a lone Canadian Goose on the way to our set up but it was too dark to shoot. With Brad's decoys we were able to set up a nice spread just off a point in the main channel. It wasn't too long before a lone duck came bombing out of the fog and caught us off gaurd. We didn't even get a chance to shoot. You think you would learn but we let it happen once again a few minutes later. I guess you can't eat jerky, talk, and shoot at the same time. We had a flock of Canadian Geese pass by but were unable to call them in (Brad tried real hard-but it isn't easy without a call or goose decoys). After freezing for a couple of hours we walked around the island we were set up on in hopes of jumping one sitting near the shore. Instead as we circled back we jumped a mallard hen out of our own decoys! It was too far away to shoot. It was a beautiful morning, but we packed it up.
We checked out some public access to see if it had any open water and on the way we kicked up about 15 pheasants. It turned out there was open water and we jumped a Golden Eye- it was too far away to shoot, but we took cover. Brad called it back and it circled right over our heads. Brad got off two shots and I shot 3 times and we both missed!
We then went exploring around Newton Reservoir and the eastside of Cutler Reservoir. We came across a field where we saw about 15 pheasants out in a field feeding. We passed by and drove back to get a picture, but most of them had scattered by then. The two pics above are our attempt to get some pics.
Overall, still a fun day and a great day to watch the sun rise over the mountains.
